The proposal is for a two story office building with no apartments units. It will be situated on the existing footprint (I assume on a new foundation rather than re-using the existing). The site is already above the flood plain elevation, so there is no need to elevate it.

The designer has obviously made an effort to make the building more palpable than the standard glass and brick office building. The rendering was more house like with brick on the first story and I believe a Hardy Board horizontal siding on the second floor (someone correct me if I'm wrong - I was in the back of the room).

I had no major issues with the design of the building as presented, but find it a little sad that the economic situation has changed so much over the years that the waterside uses that have existed there for years are no longer viable.

Unfortunately, there is a chicken or the egg phenomenon happening down there. Businesses fail and the properties deteriorate which in turn make the area less desirable to customers and putting more stress on the existing businesses. Add to that the fact that Ransom Beach - the reason for these businesses' existence in the first place- has been allowed to erode away and is no longer a beach, and you have formula for long term failure.

I indicated that I wanted to attend the meeting but the village posting was misleading - I assumed that both items, the Poseidon plan and the enlargement of the amusement park, were tabled until the 25th. Look at the posting on the village website and tell me if it is unclear.
Something needs to be done across from Ransom Beach - the Poseidon is an eyesore and there is no definitive word about the re-opening of Steve's Pier.

It would probably be beneficial to an awful lot of Bayville residents to start a cooperative for obtaining insurance. I'm sure that if everyone who gets notified of their homeowners being raised to ridiculous levels (or terminated) went, as a group, looking for a new company to supply all of their insurance, Bayville residents would save a lot of money.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It should be bought and kept as open space, it's the only open space in the village, aside from the beaches.

Why don't you start the campaign? In my opinion, the campaign should come from the parishioners, as it is their church that stands to gain/lose financially from the sale.

Sue - Thanks for your referral to New York Central Fire Insurance. I'm going to contact them during the week. With respect to Barry's suggestion of some sort of cooperative effort to obtain insurance, I'm not sure how that would work - although we might be attractive as a large $amount of business to a single company, there definitely are benefits to spreading whatever risks living in Bayville poses among multiple insurance companies. Does anyone reading have experience in this area?

Another indication of how Bayville is deteriorating. There just is no preservation in the mindset of the administration. They'll have to split the property to sell it since it is one tax lot.We don't need more housing do we?
Please post any info as what we might be able to to to thwart this possible development.

I beg to differ regarding your idea that the "administration" doesn't want to preserve land. The fact remains that the land belongs to the church and they may do with it what they please. Rather than throw insults about the administration around, perhaps a more constructive move would be to call the Village and express your desire that the land be left alone. I'm sure that the Mayor would be receptive to anyone calling and voicing their opinion to her. I don't think we need to go and accuse the administration of waiting until news becomes old to "pounce". I'm sure the land would be expensive since it is the Catholic church who is selling it, but perhaps there is a way that it could be done by the Village. Let's not automatically assume what's going to be done. Let's express our opinions and maybe not through petitions either. Petitions to me are not effective enough. Call, write letters, etc.

BTW - There are many other reasons why Bayville is deteriorating and building houses has nothing to do with it.

To all concerned about the Church selling the land.

There is a Village meeting tomorrow Monday February 25th at 7:30 Vilage Hall. Everyone who has concerns about this should go and voice their opposition in person.

This is an administration with 6 trustees and one Mayor. The Trustees do not always know who calls and what they say since they are not full time trustees. Therefore, it is my opinion that the voices of oppostion should not only be laid in a phone call but to the entire board in person or through a letter asked to be read at the VH meeting and entireed into the record/minutes.

Also, any letter sent to VH should be adressed to Maria Alfano-Hardy as well as the Mayor. Maria is the Village clerk and letters received by her are supposed to be saved as a matter of record. It would not hurt to send it certified and to the trustees individually as well.

One last note, the voters of Nassau passed a land trust bond recently. It set aside monies to be spent on preserving the last vestiges of open space. Maybe our MAyor could call Souzzi and purchase the land through this trust. Meyers Farm in Woodbury was purchased through this trust and it was orchestrated ny Judy Jacobs who is a legislator that lives near the farm.

Mayor Siegel is our leader and maybe she can put this movement forward. It would be a win win for everyone, the church, the Mayor and the people.

Being a life time resident of Bayville I find it very sad that every piece of vacant land has been purchased and a home or many homes have been put in it's place. Bayville was a small seaside village in the 50's then it grew a little for summer residents who wanted to stay all year long. Now when you look at Bayville it is loosing it's charm, it is slowly trying to come back but there's a lot of eye-sore empty building lots, vacant buildings, empty store fronts, it's very sad that a cute little town has become so ugly. There are to many people, it's very crowded, people drive to fast on small roads, it's loosing all the charm that made people move here in the first place. Let's try to stop making it look like Queens or Brooklyn, not that I have anything against those places or I would have moved there. The last thing we need is another lot sold and 10 houses taking it's place. I have watched Bayville build West Harbor Drive,Oak Point West and East, Cat Hollow, and Merritt Lane. Let's work on preserving what we have and not ripping it down.

As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor

have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is

about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark.

The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came

across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe.

It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans

are unhappy with the direction the country is headed

and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the

performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the

citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking,

"What are we so unhappy about?''

A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water

    24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air

conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy

    folks have a job?

D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery

store at any time and see more food in moments than

Darfur has seen in the last year?

E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and

trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean

without having to present identification papers as we

    move through each state?

F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels

we would find along the way that can provide temporary

    shelter?

G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with

varying cuisine from around the world is just not good

    enough either.

    H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car,

emergency workers show up and provide services to help

all and even send a helicopter to take you to the

    hospital.

I.. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of

    Americans who own a home.

J..You may be upset with knowing that in the

unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained

firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch

equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving you,

    your family, and your belongings.

K.Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat

screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer

equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come

to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free

of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the

residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own

    cell phones and computers.

M.. How about the complete religious, social and

political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of

    everyone in the world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

We met with TOB officials, local businesses, the 2nd Precinct and BOB officials. We were making progress when we hit a major wall: the POP police unit that works in connection with BOB got cutback by the county. Due to that cutback, we were unable to proceed any further.

Parents of children in Bayville and Locust Valley should know that the Oyster Bay BOB is open to TOB residents and all well behaved teenagers are welcome.

The November Village meeting was very interesting. They went through the usual resolutions and discussed a house, #28 Madison, which is in disrepair and dangerous. It is part of an estate, the village knows the owners but they have done nothing. The village is going to take action, citing a part of the village code.

I've never heard of LOSAP but apparently it has to do with volunteer firemen. They accumulate service points but this stops at age 65. A volunteer (over 65)sued under EEOC and has won. The mayor pointed out that the village regulation was exactly the same as the state regulation. Anyway the village is going to have to pay a large fine and the regulations for volunteers will have to be changed by a special vote of all the Bayville residents.

The mayor indicated her displeasure with National Grid. They came along and dug a series of holes in the newly paved Perry Avenue. The mayor said that before the paving was scheduled the village contacted all the utilities about impending projects.
Some of the temporary patches have collapsed. The village board changed the price for permits. Currently, a utility only needed to pay $25 for a permit. Permit prices were increased and each opening will require a refundable deposit - returned when patches are inspected by the village.

The bulk of the meeting was taken up by members of the Birches area complaining about parking and noise from the amusement park. They claim that the park doesn't close when it should. The illegal corn maze was a great annoyance.

The mayor said the park management was ordered to shut down the corn maze and restore it to the way it was.The park owners will have to pay fines and desk appearance tickets were issued. She also said that on evenings when the compliance officer was there, the park shut promptly at midnight. responding to a question the mayor said that village officials or NCPD cannot issue a summons because of a complaint. The violation needs to be observed. She did say that people were invited to Village hall to sign an affidavit, Then the village can take action.

People also questioned why the Park was allowed to put cars in the Stehli Beach parking lot. The mayor said that the park owners had probably made a deal with TOB. The park owners will be placing (and paying for)security persons at the entrance to Bayville Park Boulevard and on Michael F street.

    The meeting was adjourned.

This is laughable. A NC police officer who responds to a complaint(s) had to get out of his warm police car to investigate a noise complaint? Not in a million years folks. Everyone wonders why the "violations" are never observed and corrected after a complaint. Look no further than the guy in uniform making $100,000 a year to stay in his warm car and turn a blind eye. Anyway, thanks for the update Woody.

The mayor said that the NCPD did respond to calls but the park was closed by the time they got there. The fact that the village compliance officer is also involved doesn't instill me with confidence.

I tried to report the meeting without editorializing but I think that the mayor allowed these non village residents too much meeting time. 45 minutes was spent on this while a village resident taxpayer with a question about another issue had to wait.
We all understand about the noise and parking - we get it. One person kept carping on the issue over and over. The village is going to have to work out the noise issue with the Amusement Park. The mayor keeps saying that the Village can pull their permit to operate. Maybe that is what should happen.

I forgot to mention that a new bank would like to open in Bayville - First Bank of Long Island. They will be holding public hearings about this since the bank plans to alter the parking lot for a drive through window. I never thought to ask just where the bank proposes to locate!

The special election is not an election but a vote mandated by state law. If it's the one I think it is, it has to do with a lawsuit that affects the Bayville Fire department. There was plenty of transparency - they spent about a half an hour at one of the Village meetings detailing the reason for the vote - which has to do with pensions.

You're right, only "selective" transparency I guess. Everything else on the web and calendar has a full description. Didn't see anything in the "selected" posted minutes either. Maybe I missed.

It is 2009. This info (along with the rest that is available) should be available electronically as well.

Not everyone can make the meetings nor comb through the legal postings with todays hectic schedules, doesn't mean they should kept from easily getting to all the info because they're busy with life. Says to call for details. We should not have to go through a "village gatekeeper" to get the info either.

Anyway, if its for the Fire Department and they need our support then the details are critical before the vote.

I agree that more stuff could be posted online. The website tells you to go to village hall for information which I think is ridiculous. Why do they have a website?
As for the fire vote, it concerns pension credit. Apparently a volunteer could not get pension credit after a certain age - I don't remember if it was 62 or 65. Well, a volunteer went to court and sued. The outcome is that the rule discriminated against the older fireman and they can now get pension credit.
The Bayville rule was aligned with state law (which will also have to be changed). The Fire Department has a charter or something that needs to be amended and that can only be done after the village residents approve by vote.
The silly thing is, that even if the change is not approved, the old rule can no longer be applied.

Highly recommended to all: I go there every year as I'm a volunteer for the museum's flight simulation arm. Here's the bumf on the show:

    http://www.maam.org/maamwwii.html

    Another subject...

As a parent of young children visiting others' houses for playdates, it used to be that the biggest concern was whether kids would use trampolines unsupervised, go near pools without parents there, etc. etc. That's still on the checklist, for sure, but almost more important these days is to check whether your children's peers have computer access; and if so, whether it is supervised and whether proper parental controls are in place.

I work with computers so arguably know just a little more than the average user about what needs to be done; but I am sometimes concerned to find that other parents have done nothing at all in the way of setting up their kids's computer access carefully; either through laziness or, perhaps, just not knowing where to start with it all.

What is frightening these days is that a small mistake on an unguarded computer can expose a child to some pretty horrific stuff. Inevitably, once found, curiousity will drive the suprised junior surfer further, and you really don't want that to happen. Innocence can be wiped away all too fast these days.

Some might say "oh, they've got to learn all about that stuff sometime" but we're not talking gentle education here. An elementary student is quite likely to be traumatized and frightened by what is easily found on the Internet. Some time back, all such sites had warnings on their front pages or even a subscription service, which would deter the casual user. Not any more.

I apologise to those who might read these words and say "heck, we know all this, why are you wasting our time raising it?" but if this message reaches even one parent who has not thought to set up things properly, and will now do so, then this was worth writing.

Incidentally, the Google-owned "YouTube" - which is extremely popular now with kids of all ages - was infiltrated this week by "p**n pranksters" who uploaded content that you would not want your children to view and linked it to search terms such as "Jonas Brothers". Google are working fast to sort the problem, but keep an eye on your kids' computer use for a few days.

If I can ever help anyone who doesn't know where to start with all this, do please be in touch.

Either the board members communicate well, the current board and the leader need to go, 2010 the mayor is up for elction, let the people speak, Vicky needs to go, her time is up. We need term limits, we need someone creative and willing to think outside the box. Her only platform is I keep taxes down, it should be more like I keep the town down. The 90th anniversity celebration was a joke. Did anyone see the village hall lawn before the parade, it was a complete disgrace, maybe 50 people paying tribute to the brave man and woman serving this great country.

As for the town being ran by clowns yes.. if saturdays bayville birthday party was to show town spirit shame on the town that was the worst party i have ever seen. seriously we would through a bunch of teenagers together and get them to hang out with each other and bs all day not paying attention to the task at hand.. oh wait the town already has that going on. bayville is so fortunate to have our own teenage welcoming crew hanging out in the corner of bayville ave over the bridge. the town can pay the "parking patrol to hound bayville residents about "bay" stickers but they cant seem to get there act together about the time square.

as for the no bonfires with year.. well lets put bayville on the map for a serious recession. ha i know that the town is going to take a huge loss. this is the biggest weekend in bayville and they took it away. i saw the girl get hit with the fireworks. what happened to parental responsiblity as a parent myself it takes smarts that you dont let your children be that could to a bonfire and fireworks they should step up to the plate and admitt parental wrong doing those parents should be looked at for doing there child wrong.

now back to putting bayville in a slump. i hope the town is planning a bail out plan for the gas station, the local stores but better yet the town revenue at food venders and local mom and pop stores. people are not going to come well maybe this year there will not be as many people coming to bayville for what we were known for... but next year as word gets out bayville will be replaced by another town willing to take on the revenue... bayville is going to get hit hard and not one person on the board could care...

Shame for blaming the parents for that - though granted noone should have children anywhere near that beach on July 4 - are you suggesting the village make that a law - that'll go over well. No one would have any control over how an illegal firework came flying out of the bonfire. Perhaps the police and the village would find it easier to simply enforce the existing fireworks laws. Then we could all cook marshmallows.

I attended the bonfire meeting. The village has three options: do nothing, regulate the size or ban them. Last summer there was a 35 foot high bonfire that was out of control.
The little girl's parents are suing and guess what - the people aren't covered by insurance. The girl's parents attempted to include the Village in the suit but since the fire was on private property the village couldn't be party to the suit. As for legislation, the mayor indicated that she wanted to prevent the village from being party to any lawsuits. So regulation is out because there is no way that the village could enforce the regulations.
The bonfires are a tradition but people have let them get out of hand. The village attorney told the assembled group that they should call their insurance company and see what they have to say about building a bonfire that could possibly lead to a house fire.
Changing the subject - did anyone notice that one of the 50 county traffic cameras is going to be placed at the intersection of Bayville and Ludlum Avenues? That's going to give some people a big surprise.

Anyway you look at it, human life and an overall safety should be more important than revenue for the town.
I would also like to comment on some of the negative vibe in regard to the town, mayor, board. I wish that the people of this town could realize that the current administration has really worked very hard to keep this wonderful town beautiful for its residents. It is very easy to criticize people who are trying to do things and complain about whats not getting done or if its not good enough. While I understand that this blog is for voicing opinions lets keep in mind that it doesn't always have to be negative. There are a lot of great things that have been done in this town!

People building bonfires and keeping them under control is not really the issue. It is the people who charge $30-45 to get onto the beach or the misguided individuals who toss plastic five gallon containers filled with gasoline onto the fire. And standing buy a huge bonfire with a garden hose is a waste of time.

If I were the mayor and trustees I would table any discussion until they see what transpires on the upcoming 4th of July.

I think there is a relatively simple solution to the bonfire issue. While I feel for the little girl who was burned by the fireworks, I hate to see the Village ban the bonfires in response to fear of litigation. This "punish all for the actions of a few" philosophy, has permeated our schools for years and I find it unreasonable and offensive. As a 30+ year resident of Bayville, the bonfires are a 4th of July tradition which we have enjoyed for many years. The beaches are private property. However, the Village does have the right to remedy potential danger in several ways:
    1. Require a permit
    2. Include in the permit a "hold harmless" clause protecting the Village from litigation in the event of an accident
    3. Establish a bonfire height limit and minimum distance from residences.
    4. Increase beach patrol
    5. Require dousing of bonfires which do not have a permit or fail to comply with terms of permit.

Make the fee reasonable, similar to a yard sale permit - $10 with an additional amount (in this case I might recommend more than $15) to be held in escrow until bonfire remains are cleared from beach.

what in the past three years has the Village Mayor or Board done to make this town better, stronger, beautiful or successful. You are very very ignorant, we as residents of the this great town should be continously pressing our administration to do bigger and better things. No one on that board is creative. Other then the green market, they are boring. Who cares how long anyone has lived here. New or old to this town, it is easy to see that our commerical businesses are struggling. The village board wants total control of everything. The mayor is focused on taking down a wall that seperates two roads, she should be putting pressure the county to repave bayville ave. Put a cup a coffee in your cup holder and see how it splashes back and forth as you drive down bayville ave. Bayville ave itself is a disgrace, potholess, asphalt buckling, now wasting residents time with a bonfire hearing that makes sense. the village is always affraid of being sued. If they did not get sued because of last years incident why should they care. The parents are to be blammed. The girl was too close to the fire. Parental control, it is easy for the parents to point their finger at the residents of bayville. If you look at the total years and the amount of people that have come to bayville, one incident is not bad, I would play those odds. Its does not matter now, the oh mighty one has spoken the meeting was smoking mirrors, the mayor and the board members made their decission before the meeting. They were just go through the motion. When are you fools going to realize that we need a new mayor. The village taxpayers pay to have some clown drive around during the weekend and ticket people if they are holding a garage sale without a proper certificate. That is money spent well. You support this type of keadership. Bayville needs term limits. The mayor should only be allowed to run two consecutive terms, I do not support bloomberg for increasing term limits. Change is good. Vicky out in 2010, we need new blood, and most of all IDEAS. Do not support Vicky in 2010.

Now then... you can tell when a family is unused to running garage sales when they can't even get the signs right. Liberally posted within Bayville (well, five times, as per village regs) are signs announcing a garage sale at 7 Highland View Drive on Sunday, 1st June. Sunday is, of course, 31st May. So be guided by this correction

Everything must go! Dirty laundry! Shoddy toys! A couple of vehicles, both of which go fast but are not guaranteed to stop! Be there or be square...

I am not saying that anyone is perfect but I do think that credit must be given where credit is due. I am sure that when Vicki decides not to run anymore it will be seen just how much has been done over the last 20 plus years. I truly believe she cares about this town whether you like her ideas or not. Sure its possible to have a new person/people come in and do even bigger and better things. Lets be honest though, it must feel like a thankless job from time to time when it seems like nothing is ever enough. People are more than hard to please. However, if and when new people run and are voted in I would be positive and hopeful for more because I do love this town and want it to be the best it can be.
Progress does take time (referring to your desire of a term limit). I believe a lot of grant money has been obtained over the years to do things that would normally have to be done by raising our taxes. Not sure if you are a home owner but I am and it seems like taxes are always going up and its nice to know our village taxes have not, yet we are able to live in such a beautiful place.
And another thing, the only people who can be blamed for our businesses struggling are the residents who don't support them and even that is arguable now because everyone is watching their dollars these days not because they don't want to give the local shops the business but out of necessity. But I guess what it comes down to is someone always wants to have someone to blame!

Regarding grants, they are great and they do keep our taxes down, but they should not be the answer to solving all our problems, grant money comes from somewhere you know. The village taxes maybe stable now but once grant money runs dries up, your village taxes will go up, do not be delusional. Also with grant monies, the time that it takes to submit a plan get approval and then start the work could be years, it a long drawn out process. Take Perry Ave, the company that did the asphalt did a horrible job, there is no accountability, in Europe, if a company asphalts a roadway they must maintain any damages to road within 5 years, any damages that are weather related, these companies come in throw down some asphalt and run to the next job. The problem that exist is that at first the roadway appears great but in due time the roadway cracks and buckles, with proper tech. the asphalt should not buckle. At this point given the countrt's current situation, all I can do is hope it gets better either in the next four years with Obama or perhaps in the next four after that if a republican is elected. My point exactly about things taking time as far as getting grant money. I do believe that was what I meant as far as term limits(and not being in favor of them). You can believe what you want about the mayor that is your opinion as I am entitled to mine It doesn't make me ignorant of facts because I disagree with you. On the contrary, I believe I do know them and refuse to jump on a bandwagon that needs someone to bash. As far as taxes and grant money, of course not all can be done with grant money and village taxes going up is inevitable in the future. But whether you personally want to give it or not, the current administration deserves credit for their ability to find out what grants are available and then obtain them, hence keeping our village taxes reasonable. And as far as the roads and accountability and so on and so fourth-I whole heartedly agree that there should be accountability if the job is not well done and doesn't last. However that being said, there are so many roads being ripped up by Verizon and the like which might not necessarily have anything to do with the company that paved it. Utility companies that are responsible for this destruction should be penalized.

An article in the Leader newspaper mentions that the Bayville Bridge will be renamed the Victoria Siegel Bridge. Does this mean that when the bridge gets stuck they call Vicki?

Why is there the need to change the name of something to something more current. Its not just here its everywhere. This is Bayville damn it and you cross it's bridge to get here. It was called Bayville when it was founded .Is that not good enough anymore? Self important people. They make me sick. And I like Mrs Seigel. But PLEASE stop changing my life around for your reasons( to whom suggested it).

Well said Tom, will always be the Bayville Bridge to me.
Guess it wasnt a big to do since there was no ceremony for a normally big event.Probably would have been more of a protest if more had known.

    Tom,

Bayville, was not always called Bayville at one time it was called Oak Neck and Pine Island and Mrs. Siegel had nothing to do with changing the name of the bridge that was done by the county. But I do understand your feelings about the recent trend of changingnames of things everywhere.

Ben your quite right but it was founded as Bayville and the bridge was built at that time. I've been here for over 50 years. My grandfather 50 more and my house was built in 1851. History is very important to me. This is a unique place but I make no stake in claim to it and no one else should. I appreciate your understanding. But each of us has the rightand duty to preserve and protect and it gauls me for someone to come and change history to suit them.
The Mayor has done some good but other mayors might also will we change the bridge name again? Plant a tree and or put a plaque but change the history, not right just not right.

Who decided to change the name of the bridge? Leave it alone, not all people liked Vickie and I would rather see the bridge remain the Bayville Bridge, why are we changing it? There were many more people in this town that deserve that right, not just Vickie, I think the residents should VOTE!! What a concept voting Huh?????

The change was orchestrated by Diane Yatouro, our representative to the County legislature. You can read all about it in the latest issue of the North Shore Leader. The paper is available online.

Yeah I was aware of that article. My principle stands. To change the name for her reasons are wrong. And if she was representing properly we would have known before the Leader.

You are correct Tom, like everything else in this village the residents are the last to know, it will remain the Bayville Bridge to me a resident of 50+ years longer then Vickie has lived here why don't they name the bridge after me?? I guess every Mayor will want something named after them? If the named of the bridge should be changed what about the Franklin Flower Bridge? If my history is correct the Flowers stared the ferry from Bayville to Oyster Bay, then the bridge was built it would be more fitting to me to have a family that has been here longer and has done more, but call me crazy.

Just wanted to let anyone who is as fed up with the incessant, non-stop, noisy, low-flying helicopter traffic flying over our village to visit a new FAA complaint website at:
    www.quietskiesli.com
There have been a number of Newsday articles about this subject, and quite a few local, state, and federal politicians have been working hard to make it law that they fly over the Sound and not land.
Make your voice heard to help get this law enacted. Thanks!

After many days of rain, my daughter went out for a walk in our neighborhood. She came home very sad and upset. BOVE construction, which is handling the sewage project here has destroyed so much of the beauty of our neighborhood. I took my camera out an photographed unbelievable amounts of garbage, trees that have been crashed into by machinery, tubing left in the cobblestone gutters on Overlook Road, which has been damaged considerably. During her walk, my daughter saw the crew tossing their bottle and styrofoam cups into one of the holes in the road, and burying the trash! Hope that doesn't eventually seep into our groundwater. Here is an desperately needed job that preserves the environmental soundeness of our community being run by sloppy careless people from a Suffolk County company that are literally "trashing" our roads and creating environmental hazards! I will be calling the Village about this, and hope to have some support behind me. We have laws against "dumping"- a landscaper can be fined 250 bucks per incident. How about we fine this company and use the money to replace the trees they damaged? I will never, ever take for granted the gift of living in such a beautiful place, nor will my kids. We feel it should be RESPECTED and I will do what I can to achieve that.
